RF also has specialized solvers for Viscous, Viscoelstic, and Granular sims which I find superior to doing those things in XP. XP just requires a lot more fiddling around, both in the simulation and in the OVDB mesher, to get realistic results. I also find it much easier to set up a realistic sim in RF than in XP. With fluid sims, speed = quality as you’re going to get more tests done and more opportunities to make changes along the way. It has GPU support which XP doesn’t (yet), but even running on the CPU it is simply much faster.

First, the performance of RF in production quality sims is far better than XP. That said, there are still a few distinct advantages to Realflow. I also agree that their customer support and frequency of updates is superb. Overall, X-Particles is a better value as you get a much larger toolset that goes way beyond just fluid simulation. Their user forums are totally dead, and I’m always wondering of they’ve already EOL’d the product and just haven’t announced it yet. As mentioned above, the biggest drawback to Realflow C4D is the utter lack of communication and support from NextLimit. I have both Realflow C4D and X-Particles, and have done a massive amount of testing of both products. I attached a screenshot from Insydiums homepage, and I must say: Realflow’s stuff tends to look more like the left image. The new Fluid-Flip solver seems to give really interesting results in terms of simulation quality.X-Particles was ready for R23 on what, Day 1? Day2? Really good. Last point: For the performance, the price is simply too high. You have to invest massive amounts of simulation time to get interesting results, and iteration becomes really hard. Most importantly, I must say that the simulation results aren’t really -that- impressive. This problem is still not solved, for example. Quite a dealbreaker! The Redshift-team was really responsive about this and couldn’t find an error on their side, Nextlimit’s communication is… well… not that active. For example, Realflow’s “Dumb particles” (for foam and other FX), don’t render with Motionblur in Redshift. It doesn’t play too nice with other software.Anything bigger is beyond the capabilities of the solver. Realflow for C4D is really only for small-scale simulations.Realflow for S22 came several months after S22 was introduced.

I purchased Realflow, and I must say, that I’m not that impressed with the plugin. X-Particles’ giant toolbox and possibilities seemed a little overwhelming in comparison. I was wondering the same thing some time ago.Īfter evaluation, I thought Realflow would be easier to use with better results.
